So now I'm deciding between just accepting the graphics for what they are and uninstalling all of my texture/graphics mods for maximum performance and visual consistency, or going back to the STEP guide and going all-in with the visual enhancement mods. Plus, you're right zkylon, it is pretty weird that I only did the small texture mods but decided against installing any of the bigger ones. The ugliness of the game is actually making me rethink my texture mod setup.
The most annoying thing is that there is no animation for running diagonally - is this a PS1 game or what?! It looks so horrible that it was actually breaking the immersion for me, so I mostly stuck to the first-person view.
